Jays Game and Meathead Training

Great times last night at the Blue Jay game. After a 35 minute bike from my house to the stadium (do I ever live far away from downtown these days), I met up with my best bud and we grabbed some decent tickets (games are still sparsely attended).

Inside we grabbed some snacks. I went with an Italian sausage and peppers (didn't eat the bun), two bags of dry-roasted peanuts, and a water. Stayed for 6 innings, watched the Jays score a bunch of runs, and then decided to split at about 9pm. Home by 9:35 and in bed by 10. Up by 4 am and back on track with writing.

Busy day today. Dog walk, workout, QnA session, and then the dentist, followed by a trip back to the farm to drop off Bally the Dog. I'm heading to NYC this weekend and he doesn't have a valid passport yet, so he has to stay home.

Today's mid-week #Meathead training: Military Press, DB Row, Pushups, Seated Row, Shrugs, Triceps

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
TODAY is the first day of the rest of your life. So don't dwell on past mistakes because that will get you nowhere. Instead, focus on what you can and WILL do today, tomorrow, and the rest of your life, and all of the great things that will happen because of your actions. Don't wait for the 'time to be right' (i.e. until it's too late) to take action on your goals. If there's something you really want to do, then find a way to do it now.

You're as happy as you let yourself be. No one else is in control of how you view the world and your life. Your happiness is up to you.

New books from CB

Bodyweight Cardio 5 with the 5 Rounds of 5 Gauntlet Workout and Bodyweight Cardio 500 is now available at www.TTMembers.com.

It's perfect timing because today is the FINAL day to join the 14th TT Transformation Contest and to be part of the 1 Million Transformation Mission. Oh, and you might win $1000 along the way. You CAN do it.

So I'm challenging you to be as healthy as possible today. To avoid all man-made foods. To do a great workout or at least stay active for 30 minutes. And to avoid as much negativity while being as positive and optimistic as possible. How could that approach possibly hurt?

BTW, here are all of my Amazon Kindle books:

1) "How to Set Goals" (4.5 stars on Amazon) and only 99 cents. Enjoy
- http://www.amazon.com/How-To-Set-Goals-ebook/dp/B007JCNNGK

2) "Time Management - How to get more done in less time":

3) How to Make Money on The Internet

4) Metabolic Resistance Training

I really enjoy publishing these and plan to create more.

Cheap too - I think they are all 99 cents.

Oh, and the reason they are only available on Kindle is because no one will give me a real book deal. Until that changes, that's the only place you can get those books. Thank you for your support.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tip:
Expect more of yourself. You have been given great talents, good energy, and plenty of opportunity. You cannot fail. You only get results. And the results will show you whether to move ahead or try something else. Do more of what works and less of what doesn't.

Memorial Day Meathead Workout

Though I'm Canadian, I will be joining my American friends and celebrating Memorial Day today with shortened work hours.

My Meathead Memorial Day workout was: My training: Power Clean, Deadlift, Front Squat, Good Mornings.

Today's www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com fitness QnA:

Q: How to increase grip strength because my hands can't hold the dumbbells when doing leg exercises?

Answer:
First, if possible, use a barbell or harder version of the exercise (like 1 & 1/2 reps) that require less weight. Second, nothing makes you better at holding heavy dumbbells than holding heavy dumbbells. You can add 20 second heavy holds, 2-3 sets, at the end of your workouts.

Q: How to make side planks harder?

Answer:
Incorporate other exercises into it, like db lateral raises, or rows. Also, once you can do a side plank for 90 seconds straigth on each side, you don't really need to do them that often, except for warm-up/maintenance.

Q: If I am unable to go to college what other path is there to become a personal trainer you would recommend?

Answer:
Mentoring with the best trainer you can find. 2-3 years with a great trainer will make you better than 90% of personal trainers in the industry.

Q: Are there any books that you recommend on personal training, specifically how to deal and communicate with your clients?

Answer:
There are no books that cover that with respect to training, but Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is a good book for you.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
No matter how much you might feel like you are struggling, never give up. Never ever ever give in. Keep moving towards your vision. Never stand still. Believe in yourself.

If you fall "off the wagon", cut your losses, don't worry about it, and get right back on track. Immediately. It's minor damage that can be dealt with.

The mistakes of your past are not who you are now. No matter what you've done in your life you have a second chance that starts today. It is your time to choose who you will be and who you will become, for the rest of your life. You are certainly not too old to add value to the world, to give, create or inspire. If you need to, let the past go and start fresh, right here, right now.

"You can never actually control what others think of you, nor, from the self-image standpoint, should you concern yourself with it...you must expect scrutiny, just and unjust criticism, and be emotionally unaffected. But you can control your behaviour and response to it. That's your choice. No one else's choice. And no excuse replaces personal choice or responsibility." – Dan Kennedy

People want to be involved with other confident people who are doing big things and being positive and powerful. Be out there doing something great today.

For example, my dog is out taking action today. He wrote this marketing article for you because he thinks he's so smarts.

Saturday Meathead Training and Making Habits Stick

Started the day with a big dog walk, then biked to the gym. It was a Meathead Saturday, with DB press, pulldowns, bench, t-bar row. Followed that with a big bike ride down to Cherry beach and then home. Oh, and then another dog walk followed by steak and eggs. Not bad. We'll throw in a third walk later this afternoon. Three hours of walking the beaches. Good stuff.

Memorial Day Weekend MRT workout video for you:

And today's www.SuccessQnA.com

Q: Hey Craig - got your $.99 Time Management Book and you were right, it was the best $.99 I spent in a long time. It pretty much defined my issue - OCD compounded by too many or inefficient transitions, lack of structure, and a blur of jobs and personal life (I have 2 full time jobs as well plus 4 kids). Better than that, it gave me a blueprint to work on this weekend to start creating structure as best I can...My question is like weight loss that for some fades over time, how difficult is it to maintain these boundaries/rules you have established? I mean it seems here and there, life will get in the way and then if I'm not careful and diligent, I'm back on the pathway of least resistance/no structure. Admittedly, the ritual I really need to start is settling in at the end of the day to reflect and plan. Thanks and talk soon. - Bill

Answer:
Thanks for your kind feedback. You bring up a good point. Here's what can happen.

First, the more you implement the actions, the more they become habits. It's just like when you get up at 6am every day for 30 days straight and then try to sleep to 8am. It's actually hard to do. So focus on sticking to a couple of BIG habits at first. Get those 'cemented' over the next 21 days.

Then start to implement a couple of other big habits. Focus on progressively implementing more good habits and maintaining the ones you have. HOWEVER, you make a good point...sometimes things can start to slip. That's when re-focus your energy on cementing that habit again, and don't add any new ones.

Of course, over time you'll also figure out which ones are BEST for you, and which ones sound nice, but don't really do anything for you. You can cut those, and simply keep the ones that matter. Great question.

Good luck, and keep me up to date on your progress. I'd love to hear from you again in a month or so. Just send an email update to Support@etrhelp.com or
post an update on this page. Take care, and thanks again for giving it a shot.

Q: I work 60 hrs a week and just had a baby boy. I was fortunate enough to have off this week but will be returning to work next week. How can I add hours or energy to my day. Keep in mind babies eat every couple hours and on average I'm up 3 times during the night.

Answer:
Frankly, the next few months are just not going to be your most productive. Don't expect them to be. Managing your expectations will help. Also, stop using Facebook and anything that doesn't really, really, really matter. Finally, more politically incorrect time management tips

Workout rule for women

When I was a full-time personal trainer back in 2004, the
clients who always got the best results were those who went
from 'low-intensity' training to Turbulence Training.

Basically, those who were doing slow cardio and then
switched to metabolic resistance training got FAST results.

Most of the time, these fast-results clients were women, and
so the #1 rule for ladies is to increase your training intensity
- if you want fast, body shaping results.

One way to do that is with Flavia's targeted metabolic
resistance training. <=== Sale Ends SOON

Now of course, you can't out-train a bad diet, and that's why you're also
getting Flavia's Meal-by-Meal diet plan that she used - along with her
metabolic training - to put curves in all the right places and flat abs
onto her lean stomach.

But today is your LAST chance for this special offer.

Q: How do you go about actually that info product that you've been wanting to create for so long?

Answer:
Create an outline. Fill in the sections. Done. STOP PROCRASTINATING. Listen, you just have to glue yourself to a chair and get it done. Or, if filming, invest $300 or so (NON-refundable) and rent a hotel conference room on a certain date. Then film the content there. If you don't film it, you lose $300. There's nothing stopping you but yourself, and that's a pretty flimsy excuse. You can do it. Just get it done. You can always make it better.

Q: What do you do to "turn your brain off"? Even when I'm supposedly relaxing, ideas are running through my head and I seem to not shut down. In other words, I can't seem to find my "off" button. - Mike

Answer:
Mike - You do a brain dump at the end of your work session. So let's say you promise the wife and Champ that you're done working at 5:30pm. At 5:25 you grab a blank piece of paper (or word document) or write down everything in your head. Fast and furious. Then you're done. Combine that with a "mindset shift ritual" - perhaps a glass of unsweetened iced tea - that signals "End of word day - NO MORE WORKY!". The brain dump + ritual = relaxed mind that can focus on family time. (You'll get the odd idea here and there, but you'll be much better at "being present where you are" with this approach). Great question. I've been working with many coaching clients on the exact same thing.

Q from Facebook: I am a long time follower of Dr. Mercola, and he recommends doing an interval training workout first thing in the morning before breakfast for maximum fat burning. I am trying to do what you suggested to me previously (focus on the most important thing the first 90 minutes of the day). What would be the next best time to workout?

Answer:
It doesn't matter. There has never been a study showing that working out first thing in the morning before breakfast leads to faster results than any other time of day. And plenty of world champion fitness models and bodybuilders have trained at all hours. He's making a big deal out of nothing. Not that there's anything wrong with training that way, but there's nothing magic about it either.

Today's www.SuccessQnA.com

Q: First, thank you for the article you directed me to yesterday. Follow up question: "It became crystal clear to me that I should never do my own stock picking. That would be a fool's errand." For others that are also not interested in picking their own stocks, do you have any suggestions on how to properly outsource that for optimal peace of mind and return on investment?

Answer:
Ask for referrals from your network. Then investigate each of the best recommendations. Do your due diligence. And then test the waters, but be able to change your position if it is not right for you. It's just like hiring staff - Hire slow, fire fast. I also highly recommend reading Mark Ford's Palm Beach Letter.

Q: Cb, thanks for the q&a. This has been a real eye opener. Question: I have 100's of ideas, what's the best way to focus on one and grow that idea into something great?

Answer:

Massive Success QnA session

No workout for me today, just stretches, a long dog walk, and a visit to my chiropractor for Active Release Treatment. I don't have any major injuries, but benefit from regular treatment in response to the training I do. With just three weeks until the Tough Mudder run, I'm taking a conservative approach to training so that I'll be 100% on June 9th.

I also watched "The Princess Bride" last night during a recovery session. It was great for motivation and strategy. I finally figured out how to use a wheelbarrow in my TM race. j/k

Today's www.SuccessQnA.com highlights:

Q:
If you could only have 3 types of revenue streams for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Answer:
Sean - I once wrote an article about how I stick to my circle of competence. I'll link to that in a second. It's important for everyone to understand and it will help you avoid the "grass is greener" mindset that brings so many people into poor financial decisions. The point is, no matter what I choose to do, it might not be right for anyone else reading this. Your revenue streams will be largest - revenue RIVERS, not just piddly little streams - when you focus on creating value through your Circle of Competence. For me, it's publishing. I love it, I study it, I'm immersed in it. Some is as close to passive income as you can get, while others is hard-core manual labor. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Here's the article - http://internetindependence.com/my-money (and yes, I realize I didn't exactly answer your question...you got something better instead).

Q: If (for some strange reason) you could only work on one more thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Answer:
I would write. That's what I do now anyway. So perhaps that strange reason already happened. Whoa!

Q: Yesterdays early to rise rocked. The main focus of my new venture is to have the absolute best customer service possible. Love that double back guarantee. I might borrow it! My question is - in the digital age of social media, how is it that there are so many companies with absolutely horrendous customer service? It makes me sick.

Answer:
Thank you, appreciate the feedback. You bring up an excellent point...I think some companies are still in the dark ages, and some still benefit from virtual monopolies...but as we are seeing more and more often, big behemoths are practically disappearing from relevancy within years - or even months. For example, look at Blackberry/RIM. We'll see more and more of this as the world becomes more social/transparent/insert other buzzword here. I applaud you for your commitment to customer service, and wish you well.

Q: I have several projects going and I find it tough to manage everything at times. Any tips for managing multiple business projects at once so that you reach your goals?

Answer:
Prioritize, and cut. I've read many articles on Apple's success, and many of them point to what they did NOT do. That means you say NO more than yes. You cut low priorities and focus only on the BIG levers that can move you ahead. It's like pruning a rose bush...you focus on keeping the big blooms and lose everything else...and that's how a garden makes a big impact. Not with a bunch of small, inconsequential flowers.

Q: Time managment is the easy part. Just get up 5 AM each morning and get to work. Outsource whatever you can throughout the day, and you're on your way to success. The real problem is doing stuff that work in todays market. Blogging? Listbuilding? Product creation? Affiliate? Local Biz? What would you do if you started out today?

Answer:
The BIG idea is the biggest thing. You must first have a big idea to communicate to the world...one that differentiates yourself from all others. Once you know it, you need what Michael Masterson calls your "Optimal Selling Strategy". That is, the most profitable way for you to sell your product. Next, identify your optimal mode of communication. I'm actually working on a two-part article for Financial Independence Monthly on this topic. Part 1 will be in next week's June issue. If you're not a member, you can join here: www.MakeMoreMoneyOnline.com

Q: What are your top three books that you would recommend reading this year? (Business, Self-Improvement, Inspirational)

Answer:
I would recommend everyone read Viktor Frankl's classic, "Man's Search for Meaning", and Verne Harnish's blueprint, "Secrets of the Rockefeller Habits". And then I'll give you a choice between Michael Masterson's new book, "The Reluctant Entrepreneur" or Dan Kennedy's "No BS Time Management". More book ideas here - http://www.earlytorise.com/mentor/

Q: Being workaholic to success, is it bad?... How to give time to myself, if my mind is fully occupied to work?

Answer:
Angelique - Good question. The best thing to do is find activities and people that take your mind off work. I still remember the first time I went surfing, and 2 hours later when I was done and thoroughly exhausted, I thought to myself...Holy Cow! I just went two hours and didn't think about work once. It was an incredible feeling...and frankly, one that MOST people will never understand, because they spend all of their time NEVER thinking about work...but if you can find an activity like this, even once a week, it will do wonders for you. Wishing you luck, Craig.

Challenging You

Challenging you to be as healthy as possible today. To avoid all man-made foods. To do a great workout or at least stay active for 30 minutes. And to avoid as much negativity while being as positive and optimistic as possible. How could that approach possibly hurt?

My #meathead training today: Pullups, DB Press, T-bar row, Bench press, DB Tricep extensions, Rope row.

Q: When I replace interval training with Mike's Workout Finisher, should I still do a warmup?

Answer:
If you are adding them to the end of a regular workout, then no. (Although you can go through each exercise for a couple of reps if you want.) HOWEVER, if you are doing the finishers as a 'standalone' workout, then YES, you'll need a warmup. Thanks!

By the way, MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "hardcorefinishers.com" claiming to be Mike has a new program out called www.HardcoreFinishers.com

Now over to today's www.SuccessQnA.com

Q: What do you do when you messed up and really disappointed someone...mainly because you didn't produce?

Answer:
You apologize and then you take action and prove it will never happen again. Actions speak louder than words.

Q: craig, what is best way to motivate yourself to do something?

Answer:
Motivation comes from within. You must find a reason to achieve. What is important to you? Identify it, and harness that energy to drive you to take action. You're here for a reason, don't let your potential slip away.

Q: What is the best technique for managing your e-mail in the morning so that it does not distract you from actually "getting the job done"?

Answer:
Don't open it. Seriously. Fight every minute to avoid opening your email. I work 5-6 hours before opening mine. It makes all the difference in the world.

Q: Craig, when do you decide to cut your loses on an investment?

Answer:
Erik - Great question. If you are talking about literal financial investments, I don't have a great answer for you, because I am extremely conservative with my investments and have a long term vision...no individual stocks, so I'm not sure I can help. HOWEVER, if you are talking about investing time or money in a project, my 'litmus test' is when I start yelling at my dog for no reason. That's when I know something is bugging me to the point where it has to go. I'm not sure that helps, but maybe there is a similar trigger in your life.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
You are not your mistakes. Let go of the past. Focus on the future and what you can do now.

Tough Mudder Training and Success Tips

Today's training for me: Practiced some Tough Mudder obstacles, mostly monkey bars.

One of the most interesting nutrition interviews I've done in a long time (audio and transcript available) - he's convinced me to at least have the genetic testing done
- http://www.glutenfreehealthsolution.com/freereport/

Today's best from our www.SuccessQnA.com

Q: I recently 'inherited' a group of individuals who do not trust each other, plenty of gossip and a history of damaging characters, etc. i m working on building a strong team. please share some tips. tnx.

Answer:
Live by example and share your vision with the group.

Q: Best way to start a self hosted website?

Answer:
Buy a domain from godaddy, and build the site using Wordpress. Start adding great content - write 1000 word articles on your six most important topics. And if you are serious about this, get Financial Independence Monthly. We cover everything in great detail there - http://www.MakeMoreMoneyOnline.com/

Q: Hey Craig! Let's say I have a great idea or product. What is some of the best ways to start building relationships online with mentors-affiliates? They get several people approaching them and I'd like to build report first, how can I stand out!?

Answer:
Aimee - The best way is to sell their products first, then send them a nice email telling them that you love their product and their work, that you've made some sales for them, and provide them with a specific testimonial as to how their products have helped you or one of your readers. You could also send them a book or small gift based on something they have mentioned in one of their emails or posts. Essentially, be cool, and show them that you are adding value to the world. And always be taking action that gets noticed. To put it simply, be the kind of positive person that people would want to associate with.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:

Problem with Gluten Free Diet

I have some good news, and some bad news today. We'll save
the BAD news to the end, okay?

First, the good news about what happens when you eliminate gluten
from your diet (using a TRUE gluten-free meal plan).

As Dr. Peter Osborne told me in our interview, the benefits
of going gluten free include:

- Improvements in memory
- Better regulation of bowel movements
- Reduction in chronic fatigue
- Less muscle and joint pain
- Improved thyroid function
- Better skin

BUT...not all gluten-free foods are truly gluten free. And so
I asked Dr. Osborne, "Peter, those 'so-called' gluten-free
foods that you find in stores, are they lying to us? Are these
foods really full of junk
?"

Dr. Osborne replied:
"Yes, they are full of junk, and full of genetically modified and
highly processed ingredients. They are loaded with sugar and
hydrogenated fat and are just not healthy.

Even if they were really gluten free, which many of them are
not despite what they claim, they're still not healthy.

That breaks our cardinal rule of nutrition. The cardinal rule
is you can't maintain or obtain good health eating food that
isn't healthy.

It just doesn't make sense to trade one food that's destroying
your health for another food that's just not good for you
when you're trying to heal from years of gluten induced damage.

Labeling laws in the U.S. pertaining to gluten are strictly
voluntary. There's no legal requirement to define what
gluten-free means on a food label.

So legally you can have a product that contains lots of gluten
and call it gluten free and not get in any trouble over it."

***Scary stuff***

My last question was, "Peter, are there any side effects of
a gluten-free diet?
"

His reply surprised me.

"I'd say that probably the biggest change we see in somebody
who just goes on a gluten free diet is weight loss.

"This is one of the big side effects we see. When you take
that insulin spike out (caused by foods that contain gluten)
their body starts saying, 'Hey, we don't have to store all
this fat, and so we're going to start burning this fat as
fuel instead.
' The result is we see a lot of weight loss in
many clients on a gluten free diet."

If fat loss is a side-effect that you can live with, then
a gluten-free diet might be for you.

Staying in an average hotel with an average gym for a few days. I was still able to get in a half-decent upper body workout and then followed up with some bodyweight cardio in the hotel room. On Sunday morning there will be deadlifting. Looking forward to that back in Toronto.

Legs will be sore

My training today: Squat, box jumps, bulgarian split squats, glute ham raises.

Later today I'm off to Cleveland for a Dan Kennedy seminar where I'll have little access the Internet to answer emails.

Once I sneak back into Canada on Saturday, it will be time to enjoy a well-earned holiday weekend...

Today's QnA from www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com

Q: What should my work/rest times be for doing intervals with kettlebells?

Answer:
30-30 is fine. You can also ask for more kettlebell help at www.kettlebellworkouts.com

Q: How can I do fat loss intervals without running?

Answer:
My bodyweight cardio programs are perfect for that.

Grab those here:

=> http://www.turbulencetraining.com/101BodyweightExercises/

Also, there's nothing wrong with the stationary bike. Almost all interval fat loss studies are performed with the bike, NOT running.

Today's QnA from www.SuccessQnA.com

Q: What is real success to you?

Answer:
Being a value adder to the world.

Q: If (and when!) you feel your levels of motivation/flow in life drop slightly Craig, how do you get yourself back on track? What sort of reminders do you use (e.g. visionboards etc). Thanks for taking the time to do the Q&A's.

Answer:
This doesn't really happen to me, and I attribute that to my daily gratitude and achievement exercises, as well as daily readings. Watch this video for more info - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JSeJU3gL6U

Q: Need help with time management...I would also like to see how you set up your day.

Answer:
Check out my article and schedule here:

Q: How do you plan your day?

Answer:
I write it down on a word document. I know my schedule and insert my priorities.

Q: Craig i was curious to what your advice to digging yourself out of a rut would be,as far as money management, saving, and earning?

Answer:
You need to sit down and look at all your expenditures and income, and slash every unnecessary expenditure and increase your income. I've been doing that since I was 13 years old and had my first job. Never spend more than you have. Save up the money before you buy something. Work extra hours if you can. That's what I did.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
In order to succeed, we often need to try new things. Venture outside your comfort zone to find the answers you need. Seek opportunity, not security.

Build others up, it will only make you more successful. If you don't have social support, take charge as the leader to start creating and attracting the support you need.

Protein and Success QnA

After a set of 6 hill runs in the forest by the farm, I sat back for a fitness and success QnA session.

Q: Craig, are you taking in any supplements (protein shake, amino, creatine)? what's your take on 1gram of protein per 1lb of weight to gain muscle as being mentioned in a lot of fitness magazine? are you following the same?

Answer:
1g per pound is easily attainable, so its fine to use for simple math purposes. Obviously if someone has more than 12% fat, than 1g/pound overestimates what they need. You should get the same results with as little as 0.6g per pound. I use whey protein, creatine, vitamin C, glucosamine, and fish oil. On most days, the whey protein is redundant because I get enough protein from food, but it shouldn't hurt. Also experimenting with ZMA to see if it helps sleep. So far, not really sure it does.

Q: What is a good way to fix scapular winging?

Answer:
Start with a visit to a physiotherapist and get their recommendations. Also, incorporate wall slides (stick-ups), elevated pushups, and pushup-pluses into your warm-up and training.

And from www.Facebook.com/thenewearlytorise:

Q: When you get off track with your daily routine, or you get sidetracked by distractions in life, what is the most effective way to get back on track?

Answer:
To focus on the most important thing you have to get done that day. If you can still squeeze it in, you'll have a sense of accomplishment. That's what you're aiming for each day - to get the one big thing done.

Q: Do you believe in studying successful people? If so, should you focus on just a couple and study them intensely, or try to identify common threads amongst groups of successful people in your industry?

Answer:
Great question. Absolutely, you must be studying successful people. I read a great many magazines from all walks of life, and tend to do both: I spread out my study across disciplines and when I really connect with someone's path, I spend more time learning about them specifically.

How to train for a tough mudder

We did a reverse QnA on my Facebook page today where I asked people who had done a Tough Mudder or Warrior Dash race to post about their experiences. Here were the replies.

1) I did the dash in Minnesota. I would say the heat, and hills were the worse. It was held at a ski resort, so lots of hills. I would have done more hill sprints in advance. - Adam

2) Did my first Tough Mudder in March this year on Philip Island, Australia...toughest part for me was the cold...ended up hypothermic, still finished it though! Definitely need good upper body strength for the walls and you need to be able to run. There is recovery time at some obstacles! Mud is sooo much fun!! - Ali

3) I've done both Vermont TMs. In the lead up to the first one I spent a lot of time training for the obstacles (more upper body) but the real obstacles were the mountain and the COLD water. For the second one I worked on lower body and core a lot more and did more long hikes/runs in hilly terrain. Both courses in VT had you go up and down the mountain at 6 times. I did it with a GPS watch and it was close to 18K ft of elevation change. Happy to answer any specific questions anyone has. - Mark

4) I recently did the tough mudder in Ohio...it was rainy and cold...the worst part was trying to get around all the people that signed up to just walk it....I needed to stay moving to stay warm! I did a ton of animal movements ie bear crawls, crab walks, kangaroo hops etc, in addition to cold water dousing and hot cold showers to prepare for the swim....lots of stair suicide sprints, kb and bw circuits...I didn't run distances of more than 3 miles...didn't want to beat the ol knees up! It was a blast...minus the rain! - Pete

Very cool, thank you.

My training today: Pullups, Military Press, Rows, Pushups, and some meathead arms.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Head up! It's easy to get down on yourself, but don't let a bad day or mean person get you down. Keep your head up and stay motivated by looking long-term.

Classy Craiggy in San Diego

Friday was a late night in San Diego with Matt Smith, Bedros Keuilian, and 30 awesome personal trainer friends of mine. We had a great dinner at Donovan's Seafood restaurant.

We ended up going to Donovan's for dinner five nights in a row. If you go there, get the sea bass...after you train at Fit Athletic, of course.

This morning I did one more workout at Fit Athletic before flying back to Toronto today.

My training: Power Cleans, box jumps, deadlifts, front squat, good mornings, TRX ab fallouts. Great gym. Stay classy, Fit Athletic.

Abs. Everyone has them.

No matter what level of 'insulation' you have over your six-pack, I guarantee your abs are under there.

Facebook QnA from www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com

Q: I sometimes use KB swings (two hand , single, high pull and alternating) as a finisher. I do 20 seconds on and 10 off for 8 rounds but I don't really think it is Tabata because there is really no way to safely do that at an all out pace. Would you recommend something different as a finisher or is that acceptable?

Answer:
That's not bad, and you are correct, it's not tabata...its just 20-10. I'd switch to a 30-30 or 40-20 routine. Check out www.kettlebellworkouts.com for more ideas.

And more QnA from www.EarlytoRise.com

Q: hi craig! how do you personally keep track of all your daily goals and your weekly schedule? do you prefer pen and paper, white boards etc, or do you prefer electronically (eg google calendar). which methods work best for you with personal productivity?

Answer:
I use a word document. Keep it as simple as possible. Too many people turn planning into procrastination.

Q: Hi Craig. Is it true that you should stick to big markets when building a product/affiliate business (i.e. health, business, dating), or is there room for small niches? I've kind of heard both ways, I guess depending on your goals for your business. Thanks.

Answer:
There's room for everything. If you want to make $10 million a year, obviously you'll need a larger audience, or a small one with a lot of money. If you want to make $100K per year, you probably only need 1000 customers. What you should really focus on is identifying where you can best provide value to the world and the BIG idea that you can use to communicate your message. Once you do that, $100K is simple, and $1Million is possible (within a few years).

Q: I am hoping to move my business to online. What sorts of resources can you suggest for website build and development. I currently have been using E-lance.com. Would you also suggest some school courses in SEO and web design etc, or would you just outsource?

Answer:
Outsource everything. Focus on making sales and get others to do the rest. Elance, Odesk.com, Guru.com, and even some stuff from Fiverr.com will help you get started. We cover a lot of this in Financial Independence Monthly.

Q: What's a good way for creative types (writers) to clear their head between projects, especially when juggling two or three things per day that require a "clean slate" mind to be most productive?

Answer:
Rituals. For example, when its time to finish working on one project and move to another, do a brain dump (write down everything in your head), then take a 5-10 minute break, and come back to your desk as if you were just starting the day again. Perhaps there is something you could read related to the new topic as soon as you sit down.

Q: What is the best way to deal with the issues of perfectionism and procrastination?

Answer:
The only thing that beats procrastination is action. It's really that simple. In order to get something done, you must first get started. That's it. It's painful and dreadful, but there is no easy-button solution. But those are small issues compared to real problems. You can and will overcome those and they will NOT hold you back from success.

Q: I get overwhelmed by everything I wish to accomplish in a day, and then I am angry and discouraged with myself for not being as productive as I should (and can) be. It's really, really frustrating. I am capable of so much more than I am accomplishing right now.

Answer:
Start your day by doing 90 minutes of focused work on the ONE major project that will have the greatest impact on your life. Celebrate that success. Listen, you have to stop trying to do a million things and understand that you just can't go on with that approach. Prioritize and attack your top priorities. Let the minor things slide. Every day try to get better and better at this approach. You MUST move towards prioritization. We all must. We are all running out of time to make an impact. Focus, focus, focus.

Q: I'm looking for perfection with the stuff that I do, and that paralyzes the starting process. Any advice to get over the fact that starting something won't be perfect?

Answer:
NOTHING is perfect. God created the world and look at all the problems down here. You're not going to do better. The sooner you get over it, the better. Sorry if you find this harsh, but you need to let it go. You will never, ever, ever, ever, ever get to where you want to go if you demand perfection. Just get out there and get something done and make it better as you go along.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips
Be proud of yourself for taking action, getting out of your comfort zones, and getting closer to the business and life of your dreams. It's your life and doing the right thing is more important than what other people think or say about you. Stay strong. Get stronger.

So much can be accomplished with a long term vision and resilience to short term setbacks. Not every problem is conquered overnight, but if you persist and never give in, you will succeed.

Terrible Ab Exercises

On Sunday morning at the gym, I watched a girl do two separate weighted side bend type exercises, as well as crunches and V-ups.

You probably couldn't pick four worse exercises for six-pack abs and a flat stomach.

In contrast, my abs, seen all over the world (and even 'stolen' by magazines and equipment companies to promote their products) are chiseled with stability ball rollouts, cross-body mountain climbers, and more of my best ab exercises, like the ones you'll find here:

=> The Best Abs Workouts

To get sexy abs you don't need useless crunches and side bends like that poor girl was using on Sunday morning. Sadly, she remains a long way from her goals...and will likely never achieve the body she wants with crunches and cardio.

But neither will men, either. As new TT member Justin wrote on my blog, "I've been a victim of long cardio for too long."

It's time to change.

If you want to get the results I have, your solution is the TT for Abs Home Workout for just $7 here.

You'll get 12 weeks of advanced TT fat burning workouts with proven six pack abs exercises.

But hurry, this special offer ends on Thursday at midnight.

These workouts are perfect for the 14th TT Transformation Contest - and might help you win $1000 just for losing belly fat and getting in the best shape of your life.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
To find a mentor: Figure out what you want to achieve, find someone who has done that already, study them to make sure they fit your values, and then do something good for them. Spread their word. Then contact them and tell them how they have helped you. Then invest in whatever mentoring opportunity they have.

To stay focused: You need to identify what is most important to you. You need to create a vision for your life and use that vision to guide your actions. Watch this video for help - www.anewamericandream.com

Fitness and Focus QnA

My training today: Jumps, deadlifts, front squats, good mornings, kb swings.

Followed by a big fitness and focus QnA session on Facebook.

First, from www.TurbulenceTrainingFanpage.com

Q: I follow a 3 days full body workout. For my days off I would like to do some conditioning work which I could do with my bodyweight at home..What are some good 15 minute drills I could do with no equipment needed?

Answer:
Check out this program
- http://www.turbulencetraining.com/workouts/2010/june2010_bwcardio.shtml

Q: Craig, for my shoulder workout I do seated shoulder press, seated lat raises, incline bench Flyes for rear Delts, DB shrugs and DB front raises.

Answer:
It's a good workout for a pro bodybuilder on steroids. For you, it's probably going to lead to a shoulder overuse injury. You can cut the lateral and front raises.

Q: I have a lot of experience teaching and working out, but getting certified can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Can I just train people based on experience?

Answer:
I think you need to read your question and take a good hard look at what you are planning to do. To me, if you're not dedicated enough to invest in your education, then how could anyone recommend you as a trainer?

Q: How do you maintain focus? I'm a polymath, and it can be a challenge to see things through. I struggle staying focused on a single project.

Answer:
You need to identify what is most important to you. You need to create a vision for your life and use that vision to guide your actions. Watch this video for help

Q: What, in your opinion, is the best way to find a mentor?

Answer:
Figure out what you want to achieve, find someone who has done that already, study them to make sure they fit your values, and then do something good for them. Spread their word. Then contact them and tell them how they have helped you. Then invest in whatever mentoring opportunity they have.

Q: I am not a morning person, but I love the idea of getting up an hour before my wife and kids and using that time to work on my Internet business/writing. Any tips on developing the habit of waking and getting out of bed early?

Answer:
Go to bed early, set an alarm, and just do it. You'll get better with practice. No magic answers, sorry.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
Know what you want to get done. Know when you work best. Get one big thing done early in the day. Do not let others get in your way. Own the day.

Today's training. Early morning hill runs. Saw some bunny rabbits. Normal ones, not the killer type. Good times.

Yesterday was a good session too.

I put together some excellent new 5x5 bodyweight circuits for the new Bodyweight Cardio 5 program. Did those in my hotel room yesterday morning in Jersey. Legs are a little sore today...also borrowed a few new exercises from Alwyn Cosgrove's latest "new rules" book. Great hotel room session

22,000 crunches

According to Men's Health magazine, it takes more than 22,000 crunches to burn a pound of belly fat.

So you'll never get a flat stomach or six pack abs while crunching away on the ground.

On the other hand, crunches can literally be a pain in the neck - and low back.

So give them up.

What should you do instead?

Try this scientifically-formulated at-home metabolic resistance abs program for only $7:

=> Save money and get abs at home

For this week only you can get a complete 12-week TT for Abs workout blueprint for just $7.

When compared to driving to the gym ($3 gas) and getting a Starbucks on the way ($4.50), this "at home abs program" is already cheaper (and more effective) after just one day.

=> Save money and get abs at home

Make sure to use this program in your TT Transformation.

You can turn $7 into $1000 if you win your category.

Bodyweight Cardio

Woke up full of energy and ready to go, so I tested out the June TT Bodyweight Cardio 5 program in my hotel room. Had a great time at Jay Ferruggia's wedding last night with Alwyn & Rachel Cosgrove, Zach Even-Esh, John Alvino, Keith & Lisa Scott, and of course, Jay and Jen. It was quite the party.

Back to Toronto this morning. Gotta get ready for a big week at Turbulence Training.

It starts tomorrow...Turbulence Training Transformation Contest #14. Your chance to win $1000 - www.TransformationContest.com/rules

Yesterday was a great day in Jersey, too.

Renegade Gym workout with Jay and Rachel and Alwyn Cosgrove. Upper body plus prowler pushes. And then Jay made us all go out for a bit of a weird post-training meal.

And before that, Jay and I also went to the mall this morning. Can't go to Jersey without going to the mall.

Today's Kickbutt Mindset Tips:
It's your life and doing the right thing is more important than what other people think or say about you. Stay strong. Get stronger.

Nutrition and Productivity and Time Management

Going to train at Renegade Gym with Jay Ferruggia today. If it's any good, I'll let you know what we did.

In the meantime, here's a good nutrition resource for you:

Now for some Facebook QnA:

Q: What's your preferred method of intermittent fasting?

Answer:
TT users prefer Eat Stop Eat. Personally, I just don't like to fast. I don't need to, so I rarely, rarely go more than 12 hours without food. If I had to use a plan myself, I'd do one of those 18-6 plans.

Q: What are your best productivity tips?

Answer:
First, identify your priorities. Second, play your day. Third, make sure that you are working on highest priority projects when you are most productive/creative. Fourth, eliminate distractions. hope that helps.

Q: What systems do you use to manage social media? How can you be engaging while not totally consumed by all the channels?

Answer:
Just set a time to use it and that's it. I post my quotes, do my QnAs, and then that's it. If something comes up that's really timely, I can jump on and off in seconds with my phone. Or if I'm stuck in a cab, i'll check it. But it's very, very, very easy to limit social media. And you should, because it's a POOR use of most people's time.

Q: What are 3 books that changed your life?

Answer:
My book recommendations are here
- http://www.earlytorise.com/mentor/

And here's one that will change yours. It's my new Time Management book:
